Alberta peeps, are you interested in this mushing thing, but not sure where or how to get started? Well then today is your lucky day, because we’re going to share three great clubs that can help you get started in the wonderful world of recreational mushing…let’s dive in!
#1 Kicksled Edmonton
If you live in the Edmonton area, we can’t recommend this group enough. Ask to join the group and get access to the great equipment guides, trail information, and learn about upcoming group runs and learn to mush events. Heck, even if you don’t live near Edmonton it’s worth the drive!
#2 Alberta Mush For Fun
For our Calgary area mushers (or wanna be mushers) this is an excellent group to learn from. They run an introductory clinic a few times a year, and have some online classes available. It always helps to have someone local who can let you know the good trails to try, and maybe even try a fun race!
#3 Wheel Dog League
Of course, we have to throw an oh so humble plug for ourselves as well. Our League headquarters are in Calgary (though we have members from across North America), so it holds a special place in our hearts. The beauty of a virtual League – no matter where in the province you live you can have fun with your team and meet like minded mushers.
Now that you know where to start, be sure to pick up our free Canicross Equipment cheat sheet to learn the gear you’ll need to head to a club event.
